Affordability makes 3-star hotels a hit among travellers: report

Affordability and decent customer service make three-star hotels most preferred among Indian travelers.

“A room in a three-star hotel would cost around ₹2,500 per night which is quite economical,” said Sharat Dhall, Chief Operating Officer (B2C), Yatra.com.

Recently, Kayak, a travel search engine, came out with a report on the hotel searching habits and preferences of Indian travellers, which showed around 38 percent searches were made for three-star hotel properties last year.

“Customers who plan to stay in a three-star hotel are not really looking for luxury; their focus is on how affordable it is and what all amenities they would get. Good food, well-groomed staff make these hotels an ideal option for the travelers,” said Ramesh Ramanathan, Managing Director, Sterling Holidays.

Industry experts believe that in India there might be around 700-1,000 four- and five-star hotels. On the other hand, the number of three-star hotels would be over 1,000. Besides, it is easier to set up a three-star hotel, added Dhall.

‘Perfect pick’

Also, when it comes to booking a one- or two-star there is no certainty that the room would turn out to be the same as it is in the photo, on the other hand, four- and five-star hotels are on the higher side, said Abhijit Mishra, Director of India and West Asia, Kayak, adding that this makes three-star hotels a perfect pick for the customers.
