New Delhi: In the rapidly evolving situation around the coronavirus pandemic throughout the country, foodservice players are taking to zero-contact delivery of the food items to their customers. The latest to join the bandwagon is quick service restaurant player KFC, which said, the company is launching ‘Zero Contact Delivery’ service, which will ensure that our trained delivery member will deliver food at the consumer’s doorstep, without any contact with the consumer for prepaid orders.

According to the company, the riders will follow a strict protocol of wearing masks and hand gloves at all times during the delivery process.

“To ensure the health & safety of our consumers as well as team members in the current situation, we have rapidly put in place stringent operational protocols. These include sanitizing of all restaurant areas at regular intervals through the day and frequent sanitizing of tables, counters, doors, and door handles every 30 minutes,” said the company’s spokesperson.

Another Yum Brands Mexican fast-food chain, Taco Bell said that they are monitoring the situation and are reacting in ways that will safeguard all stakeholders.

“We are committed to continue delivering on our promise of ‘Trust in Every Bite’ to our consumers, whether they dine at their nearest Taco Bell restaurant, or choose to take-away or order-in, as per their convenience,” the company’s spokesperson said.

Westlife Development, the company that owns and operates McDonald’s restaurants in West and South India through its wholly-owned subsidiary, had earlier launched contactless delivery service to deliver food to the customers’ doorstep. According to the company, McDonald’s India is ensuring that food reaches customers without being touched by bare hands and delivered safely with adequate social distancing measures.

Top food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy, which together deliver an estimated 2.6 million orders every day, have taken multiple measures – from telling consumers to let delivery partners leave the packages at the door to offering insurance and financial support to delivery staff in case they are infected with the virus – to mitigate any negative impact on consumer deliveries.

The Delhi government on Thursday shut restaurants in the national capital amid the coronavirus outbreak but said that takeaway and home delivery services will continue.

Domino’s India had earlier said that the contactless delivery services will be available across all the 1325 restaurants of the pizza chain across the country.
