‘Pujo Aasche!’… the phrase that brings more joy to the citizens of Kolkata than any other instance. Elated spirits and decked-up streets define a large part of one of India’s biggest festival – Durga Puja.

A 10-day celebration of the homecoming of Goddess Durga, Pujo, as they commonly call it, is a beautiful confluence of tradition, hope, and joy which seems incomplete without a grand festive special feasting. And Kolkata’s Pujo seems incomplete without one food – i.e. “Biryani”.

The bond between the Awadhi/Mughlai cuisine and Kolkata goes a long way back. The Mughlai cuisine has given some irresistible savours to Kolkata but at the same time, the Awadhi cuisine, which has drawn a considerable amount of influence from Mughlai style cooking, gave way to some enticing flavours of grilled kebabs and of course, aromatic Biryanis to the City of Joy.

And, talking about the great historical Awadhi cuisine of Lucknow in Kolkata, the restaurant that automatically pops up to our mind is none other than Aminia. Completing 90 years of prosperity, growth and satisfying our cravings for delicious food, Aminia which has started its expedition way back is still glowing with success and unaltered taste.

It aims at giving back the most appropriate flavours, and fragrance to the community which has consistently showered them with love and support for generations and also to all of them, who have always considered Aminia as a trustworthy casual fine dining restaurant.

At the beginning of Durga Puja, Swastika Mukherjee, one of the most renowned and celebrated actor of the Indian Cinema has conceptualized a photo-series depicting the irony of today’s society, “Durga Ke?”. The series questions the conscience of the spectators with the rhetoric – Who is Durga? The one who you worship while simultaneously looking down on your daughters, wives, sisters and all womankind?

The hypocrisy of our Indian society is depicted through these ironic instances. The series is a portrayal of taboos, gleams of patriarchy and unrealistic beauty standards and more that the society has been feeding on for long.

The series is a thought-provoking, emotioninstilling and heart-warming the portrayal of womankind across the nation, how ironic the society is while intriguing the viewers with a rhetorical – Who is Durga? Aminia as a brand has emerged victorious in the F&B sector & is also associated with various social drives since its establishment.

They have been a forerunner in several CSR activities and a holder of many notable food awards and recognitions. On their completion of 90 years, what could be the better way to celebrate than hosting, Ms. Swastika Mukherjee being a part of her “Durga Ke” campaign. Swastika invited various personalities from different walks of life to recite a story and discussed her recent photo series over lunch at Aminia, Golpark on 28th September in the auspicious eve of Mahalaya.
