Bengaluru restaurant is giving away bird feeders to celebrate World Environment Day

06/06/2018

In order to spread awareness towards the desperate need to help the bird population in the city, on 5th June, Smoke House Deli in Bengaluru will be handing over homemade bird feeders made from sustainable materials to the customers along with their bill. This small gesture is the start of their campaign to bring more light to this issue. Smoke House Delhi, hopes to inspire people to use these feeders to ensure birds in the city are looked after and well fed, given the scorching heat this season. These feeders, made out of birdseed, are easy to hand on trees and will be in shapes of stars and hearts.

The United Nations, celebrates 5th June as World Environment Day, using the day as a vehicle to bring light to crucial issues pertaining to the degradation of our environment. The day is dedicated to encouraging awareness towards environmental issues and how the rapid decline of favorable habitats is leading to the extinction of various species. This year the global host country is India and the focus of the day is on the reduction on the usage of plastic.

The discussion on environmental issues and the far-reaching and devastating impact they have is particularly relevant to India. This year, the country has faced a very noticeable rise in temperatures. This, in turn, has a direct impact on the environment, especially on the already declining bird population of the country.
