Best from The Waste – an attempt to celebrate a sustainable festive season by Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan

12/12/2018

Pune, 12 December 2018: Wouldn’t it be great if trash is treated as a treasure? It certainly would be, but the question is: “How and what could be done?” Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan has come up with a brilliant answer to this question. The team has created the Christmas décor with discarded, recycled and reused materials. A gingerbread castle is placed at the center of the lobby. The castle has been constructed keeping every small detail in mind, like the bricks, the windows, and the overall structure. It was built with 04 people making it over a period of 10 days and the castle weighs around 200 kgs.

The complete set up is made up of a castle, a 15ft long Christmas tree along with the Santa Claus and Reindeer kept around it. The most interesting and unique part of this whole décor is that it is made up of discarded and recycled material. The Santa Claus and Reindeer is made up of discarded towels. The housekeeping team has made these two artefacts from the discarded guest towels and it took them 02 weeks to finish the task. The horns of the reindeer are made up of tree branches. To support sustainability, an initiative taken by Marriott under Serve 360, we commit to creating a positive and sustainable impact on the environment as well. Aligning with this thought, LED lights have been used to complete the festive look without taking a toll on the environment.

The entire theme was conceptualized by the Executive Chef Sathish Reddy and Pastry Sous Chef Sachin Chinchkar whereas the Santa Claus and the Reindeer were designed by the Housekeeping Manager, Kunal Agawane and Laundry Manager, Anil Kadre. The whole structure is standing on a wooden base which was made by the engineering team. It was a complete team effort where the Culinary team, Housekeeping team and Engineering team worked hand-in-hand to make this a big success which is standing tall at the centre of the lobby.
