Czar of Indian Cuisine, Jiggs Kalra Passes Away…

Jaspal Inder Singh Kalra popularly known as Jiggs Kalra, Chairman and Managing Director of Bawarchi Tolla (Hotel and Restaurant Consultants) passed away on 4th June 2019, after fighting from a prolonged illness, the legend of Indian culinary Jiggs Kalra taken his last breathe early in the morning at his residence in Delhi. Jiggs Kalra was a food columnist, gastronome, author and a food consultant. Jiggs Kalra was also known as the “Taste Maker to the Nation” and “Czar of Indian Cuisine”. Jiggs Kalra has also authored over 11 titles on Indian Cuisine, including the very popular one “PRASHAD”, which is considered as the Bible for the chefs of the present generation.

The very famous food columnist, Jiggs Kalra was the first Asian to be inducted in the highly prestigious society of International Food and Beverage Gourmet Hall of Fame.  Kalra’s culinary journey paved way for the Indian Cuisine to gain recognition on the International platform, he was the first one to conceptualize and host a food-oriented television series in the country. He was very famous for his television show called “Dawaat” on Doordarshan and his famous restaurant chains like the Punjab Grill, Masala Library and Made in Punjab. His son Zorawar Kalra is one of the most successful restaurateurs and the most famous face of this industry.
