Indo-Pak clash likely to be high-scoring… for hospitality sector

15/06/2019

Expect your restaurant bill to be cut to half if India win, get alcohol at heavily slashed rates and toast up on free shots every time an Indian player hits it out of the park. Hotels, pubs and restaurants are lining up special offers and promotions on Sunday, when India take on Pakistan in the biggest face-off in the World Cup. They are promising a carnival atmosphere and are expecting significant walk-ins and bumper sales.

At Aqua, the poolside bar and lounge at The Park, Kolkata, guests will get free shots on every six hit and every wicket taken by the Indian team. Its Hyderabad counterpart is offering unlimited beer and chefs’ choice starters for 90 minutes at Rs 999. ITC Maratha’s Bombay High will cut your bill by half if India win.

“India-Pakistan matches need no offers to make them exciting.

We are expecting massive footfall anyway. The offers are just to add to all the excitement,” said Pramode Bhandari, area sales manager at The Park Kolkata.

L Catterton-backed Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality’s Social outlets are offering 500 ml and 1,000 ml bleeding blue LLIITs (iced teas) and ‘bleeding blue’ beer buckets starting at Rs 620. There is also a Khamba offer which includes spirits being offered by the bottle at heavily slashed prices. For those who are taking a taxi to Social, Uber would offer a 10% discount.

Anurag Katriar, chief executive of Degustibus Hospitality, which runs restaurant brands like Indigo Deli, Tote on the Turf, D:OH!, and Dakshin Rasoi, said high-profile events like the India-Pakistan World Cup bring out extreme emotions among people which is great for the food and beverage business. “Irrespective of whether people watch such matches on giant screens at restaurants and bars or within the confines of their homes, the festive spirit ensures high fervour and therefore, higher F&B consumption. If they do not go out, they will order in,” said Katriar, who is also head of the Mumbai chapter of National Restaurant Association of India.

At the Deltin Daman, a fivestar hotel in Daman and Diu, the glasses are coming frosted with World Cup pictures with buy-one-get-one-free offers at its bar. Gaming and entertainment hub Smaaash in Mumbai is offering free shots to those who come wearing the Indian team’s jersey, for 10 minutes if India’s score goes over 350.

Its Delhi outlets are offering food at Rs 799, along with three house beers. At Earthplate Bar and E.A.S.T Bar (Patio), you will get unlimited drinks and food for Rs 2,000 plus taxes for two hours on Sunday,.
