Maharashtra dairies to cut milk prices by 10%

A section of the close to 30 dairy brands from Maharashtra have announced to cut retail prices of cow milk by Ra 4/litre, expressing confidence that other brands will be forced to fall in line.

The price cut will become applicable from June 16. The price of cow’s milk, which has been ruling between Rs 42/litre to Rs 44/litre for various brands, will now be cut to Rs 38/litre to Rs 40/litre.

“We have not been able to pay a higher price to farmers as international prices of milk powder have been ruling subdued. We have now decided to cut the margin of dealers and pass on the benefits directly to end consumers,” said Prakash Kutwal, of Kutwal Foods, which sells its milk products under Urja brand.
