The iconic five-star hotel hosted the world’s highest ball drop.

lebua Hotels and Resorts once again put Bangkok on the world map, hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Dome at lebua that boasted the world’s highest ball drop. Suspended 872 feet in the air and visible for more than a mile across the city, the ball drop at lebua surpassed even the Times Square ball drop in New York City.

The celebration encompassed the entire collection of bars and restaurants at the Dome. Sirocco, Mezzaluna, Sky Bar, Distil, and Flute hosted a sold-out celebration well into 2017.

lebua’s impressive ball was made locally in Thailand by a team of 50 engineers and craftsmen and descends 49 feet above Sirocco, the world’s highest al-fresco restaurant. The ball weighs 1.2 tons and consists of a steel frame of 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons, is covered with a translucent fabric, and includes 2,950 LED lights and 50 strobe lights.
