On Wednesday, the number of people detected with coronavirus in India went up to 60 including 16 Italians after fresh cases were reported from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Kerala.

As COVID-19 becomes widespread with more people testing positive, several food brands have taken it upon themselves to spread awareness and ensure a clean and hygienic environment for their customers, employees, and partners.

The online food ordering and delivery platform, Swiggy, sent out an advisory to all its customers, updating them about the some proactive measures they have taken to deal with the novel virus.

In tandem with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations on best practices, the Bengaluru-based company mentioned in its mail, “the safety of our customers, employees, delivery partners and restaurant partners has always been a matter of top priority for us – now more than ever before”.

In the e-mail statement, the food ordering brand led by CEO Sriharsha Majety, pointed out that their delivery partners are continually being trained in best practices of respiratory hygiene, proper method and frequency of washing hands and identification of associated symptoms.

“Should a delivery partner notice any associated symptoms, they’ve been asked to immediately reach out to us (Swiggy) and consult a medical professional,” the statement read.

Swiggy has also advised its delivery partners to self-quarantine themselves for the recommended period upon noticing any symptoms. It further clarified that the platform will provide the delivery partners with free medical consultation, and will ensure their financial safety by supporting them financially.

Meanwhile, the mobile-based app has also briefed the restaurant partners with best hygiene practices while handling and packaging food items.

Furthermore, to keep their delivery partners safe, Swiggy urged its customers to pick the food package from the door (in case of online payment) if they are not feeling unwell.

Last week, another popular food delivery platform, Zomato, took to social media to alert over 113K of its followers about how tiny germs continue to linger on the fingertips, and stressed on the importance of washing hands.
