PepsiCo taps local market with Kurkure’s new variant

21/09/2018

In a bid to tap the local market, PepsiCo’s salty snacks division has launched three new flavours under its popular brand Kurkure. Twistkeen — a baked namkeen which comes in three flavours — is developed in line with tastes and flavours similar to popular regional snacks such as Bikaneri bhujia, Andhra’s murukku and Shahi flavoured namkeens.

A statement from the company said that PepsiCo worked with its global and local R&D teams from three continents to develop a modern format retaining the flavour of Indian traditional namkeens.

Jagrut Kotecha, vice-president for snacking category, PepsiCo India said, “With Kurkure Twistkeens, we aim to create an entirely new category in the salty snacks industry. We are confident that this will resonate well with consumers and will prove to be another significant step in our goal to double our salty snacks business in India over the next five years.”

The snacks, which will be available in two variants (Rs 15 and Rs 55), are being manufactured at the company’s snacks manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The new products will be sold across 18 states with focus on modern trade, e-commerce and select traditional outlets, added Kotecha.
