KFC Corporation is the largest fast-food chicken operator, developer, and franchisor in the world. KFC, a wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc. until late 1997, operates over 5,000 units in the United States, approximately 60 percent of which are franchises. Internationally, KFC has more than 3,700 units, of which two-thirds are also franchised.

First, overseas KFC franchise was opened in England. Today it operates in more than 80 different countries.

KFC has used many innovative ideas to gain the top position in quick services restaurants:

1. There is a secret recipe to the KFC chicken, which is safely locked away in Kentucky to keep it away from intruders.KFC is one of the most successfully kept trade secrets in the world. Its unique taste comes from a blend of 11 herbs and spices.

2. In 1991 Kentucky Fried Chicken innovatively decided to change its name to KFC because it is fewer syllables and is easy to pronounce with a mouth full of delicious food of KFC. They also wanted to tell their customers that they have more for them to enjoy than just fried chicken and people itself like it to pronounce it as KFC as it is much easier to say.

3. Since KFC raised the slogans, “Kentucky for Christmas” in Japan, people have nearly started a tradition of having KFC chicken on Christmas. The company applied the strategy of following the culture of the country to get famous.

KFC, the world’s most popular chicken restaurant chain, won several awards like gold for consumer insights, silver for excellence in Direct Marketing category, silver for best CRM strategy and many more.
