Zomato delivery boy takes a bite, video goes viral

Online food orderingand restaurant reservation platform Zomato has been caught in a new controversy after a video of one of its food delivery boys wearing a Zomato tshirt carrying a company delivery bag and consuming food out of its boxed orders appeared on social media.

In the two-minute video, the boy was then seen resealing the packages and putting them back into the delivery bag which was likely to be delivered. The video, which has gone viral on social media, has received flak from users. However, the authenticity of the video could not be verified.

Responding to the video, Zomato in its blog post said that the matter will be investigated internally. Citing this as a ‘rare and unusual case’, the foodtech company said that it will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes and other precautionary measures to ensure safeguards against this.

“Additionally we will educate our delivery fleet of over 1.5 lakh partners to highlight or escalate any such deviations, while also encouraging our users, the custodians of our platform, to highlight the smallest anomalies,” the statement said.

Zomato, that has recently forayed into the growing events space with the launch of Zomato Events, ended FY18 with a 40% growth in revenues at Rs 466 crore. The firm also cut corners squeezing losses by almost 73% in FY18 at Rs 106 crore compared to Rs 390 crore in FY17.
